# Building height limit

A building height limit is the tallest a structure may be under local zoning, measured by a method the code defines.

Height limits depend on the zoning district. The method of measuring also matters, because two houses with the same roof can measure differently. In a flood area, the starting point for measurement can be the required floor height, not the ground.

A City of Tampa draft code measures height as the vertical distance from the required finished floor to the highest point of the structure.
