Change order
A change order is a signed amendment that changes the scope, price, or schedule of a construction contract.
A change order records a change in writing before the work happens. It states the new scope, the new price and any new time. Both sides sign. Without one, a verbal request can turn into a dispute.
The National Association of Home Builders sells a change order form that lists changes to the contract specifications and scope, with cost and time changes agreed to by the customer. A sample agreement on the Florida Building Commission site says changes are authorized by a written change order. A change order may adjust an allowance in a fixed-price contract.
