FEMA flood zone AE

Zone AE is a high-risk flood area on FEMA maps where a base flood elevation has been determined and flood insurance is required with a federally backed mortgage.

Zone AE is one of the zones FEMA lists inside the special flood hazard area. FEMA treats any place with a 1 percent or higher yearly flood chance as high risk. The base flood elevation is shown for AE zones on the flood map.

In the City of Tampa, a permit in the hazard area needs an elevation certificate from an engineer or surveyor. Look up your address on the City or FEMA map before you commit to a lot. The flood zone pillar walks through the steps.
