FEMA flood zone VE

Zone VE is a coastal flood area with a 1 percent or greater annual chance of flooding plus added hazard from storm waves.

FEMA describes Zone VE as coastal land with a 1 percent or greater yearly flood chance and extra hazard from storm waves. FEMA notes a 26 percent chance of flooding over a 30-year mortgage. VE maps show a base flood elevation.

Wave force makes VE sites harder to build on than zone AE sites. Storm surge is the main driver of that wave action. Ask the City which zone covers a lot early. Zone VE is one more reason to confirm the map before you buy land. Then read our hurricane-resistant construction guide.
