Building height limit
A building height limit is the tallest a structure may be under local zoning, measured by a method the code defines.
Height limits depend on the zoning district. The method of measuring also matters, because two houses with the same roof can measure differently. In a flood area, the starting point for measurement can be the required floor height, not the ground.
A City of Tampa draft code measures height as the vertical distance from the required finished floor to the highest point of the structure. That rule links zoning to flood rules such as base flood elevation. Raising a floor can use up part of the limit. Ask the City how it measures height on your lot, and see building in a flood zone in Tampa for the full picture.
