Florida Building Code
The Florida Building Code is the statewide set of construction rules for design, wind, flood, energy, and safety that local building officials enforce.
Florida law creates one statewide Florida Building Code. It covers the design, construction, alteration and repair of buildings. Local governments enforce it. The Florida Building Commission says the 8th Edition (2023) took effect December 31, 2023.
The code sets the rules for wind, impact windows and flood height. Your plans are checked against it before a building permit is issued. See hurricane-resistant construction for how it shapes a Tampa home. Ask the building department which edition applies to your permit date.
