Grand tree

A grand tree is a class of protected tree in the City of Tampa tree code that gets extra protection during construction and removal.

Tampa's tree code treats grand trees as their own class, beside protected and specimen trees. The City's Tree and Landscape Technical Manual includes a detail for work within the protective root zone of protected, specimen, and grand trees, so a grand tree can change where a foundation, pool or driveway goes. The definition and size threshold sit in the City code: ask the City for the current rule on your lot.

A City guide says prior approval from Natural Resources is needed to remove a hazardous grand tree. Check trees early with your zoning limits such as setbacks, especially on a tear-down lot. See building on your lot in Tampa.
